Cheap-Escapes.com improves services after bumper year.

The eco-friendly tourism portal, which encourages the use of public transport for sightseeing in Yorkshire has seen significant growth in traffic since its launch in May 2003.

Yorkshire-based tourism portal http://www.cheap-escapes.com has upgraded its server and services to allow for its continued growth.

"The amount of traffic we've been receiving has been incredible," said editor Jacki Sweeting. "We launched www.cheap-escapes.com to show just how easy it was to travel in and around Yorkshire on trains, on buses and on foot."

"We positively discriminate our content toward using Yorkshire's public transport infrastructure," Ms Sweeting said. "Despite the moans and groans of many, we've proved that using public transport is not only a viable way to enjoy attractions and the countryside, it is safe, stress-free and fun!."

Ms Sweeting said the improved services for the website would allow for further improvements in 2004. Server space has been doubled to accommodate further expansion.

"We expect that we will have another 300 pages of content in the next 12-months," she said. "Unlike 'directory' sites, Cheap-Escapes is an information site full of good content and is not based on advertising. All of the places reviewed by Cheap-Escapes have been visited personally by our team and all destinations have been travelled to by public transport."

Ms Sweeting said the growth of the site had been encouraged by the support West Yorkshire Metro and other sponsors. "We have a number of affiliations that we see as a very positive sign of support and a bright future for www.cheap-escapes.com," she said.

Asked if she could recommend a great weekend away or day trip in Yorkshire, Ms Sweeting said: "Just go and check out Cheap-Escapes.com ... there are plenty of ideas to suit everyone!"
