Chatham, NY When Mark Elliot and Rhonda Neal decided to tie the knot, their love soared literally. The mountain climbing enthusiasts from Mission Viejo, CA are planning to be the first couple married on the African peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro on December 29th.
The mighty Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and dominates its landscape unlike any other mountain. Located in Tanzania and known as the Roof of Africa, this extinct volcano looms over five eco-systems and large game reserves and is certainly one of the world's most impressive sights. According to Ernest Hemingway, the mountain is as wide as the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun.
The idea for the first-ever African mountain top celebration came from Elliots 11-year-old daughter who also plans to make the climb along with a girlfriend. The girls will be the youngest ever the make it to the summit.
Lisa Light, owner of Destination Bride in Chatham, NY, is helping to plan the logistics of the 19,000+ trek and wedding. Ive had many requests to help plan weddings at unique locations, but this one surely takes the cake, she says. She has arranged their private climb working with Tribe Safari, a tour company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The couple will have 2 guides, 8 porters and a cook escorting them to the top.
Light, also known as The Wedding Anthropologist due to her background in anthropology, and her passion for weddings around the world, has become an authority on destination, inter-faith and multi-cultural weddings. She is the founder and president of Lisa Light Ltd., an omni-media, special events company.
She receives many inquiries for African wedding adventures. People are often surprised by the elegant options available in many African countries, Light explains. African destination weddings offer the utmost in rustic elegance, adventure, culture, wildlife, and romance. It is also surprising how easy it is for foreigners to be legally married in many African countries.
