SPLASH YOUR WAY INTO A DUCKY

There are only three jobs like it in the world and one of them is open and ready for a ducky candidate at The Peabody Memphis. The Peabody Ducks at the "South's Grand Hotel," need a new duck master to train, care for them, and march them twice a day with all the pomp and circumstance these VIPs, Very Important Poultry, deserve.

"The individual we seek for this position must have an innate love of, and respect for, all living creatures, especially North American Mallards, the family of The Peabody Ducks," said Nancy Lebrecht, director of human resources for The Peabody Memphis. "The successful candidate will demonstrate a flair for fowl play," and enthusiastically embrace tending to the needs of the five most famous mallards on the planet, and acting as their press representative.

"These famous ducks and their previous duck masters, have been featured in major magazines, national newspapers and network television shows in the U.S. and all over the world. The successful candidate will be articulate and at ease with major domestic and international print and electronic media."

The duck master position originated at The Peabody Memphis and is unique to Peabody flagship hotels (the other two being The Peabody Orlando and The Peabody Little Rock). This unique position was created when Edward Pembroke, a retired Ringling Brothers animal trainer, joined the hotel as a bellman and volunteered to care for the ducks. Pembroke trained the mallards to perform the official "march" into the hotel's Grand Lobby. The late Mr. Pembroke served in the duck master role until his retirement in 1991, and left a unique hotel legacy that lives on to this day. A suite has been named in his honor at the hotel, and his portrait hangs in the Peabody main entrance.

Applications are being accepted at the hotel: 149 Union Ave., Memphis, Tenn., Monday-Friday, 9a.m.- 1p.m. Candidates may also call 1-800-PEABODY or 901.529.4145.
